Victim Advocacy Services
KARE's Victim Services Program offers emotional support and service coordination for families experiencing abuse situations. We make resource referrals and collaborate with other agencies through a multidisciplinary team to ensure that:
- victims are treated with dignity and respect,
- their cases are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted when possible,
- victims and their caregivers have the tools and resources necessary to heal.
Our main goal is to minimize further trauma to children during the investigation.
There is never a charge to families for our services.
Forensic Interviews
A forensic interview is a structured conversation with a child intended to elicit detailed information about a possible event(s) that the child may have experienced or witnessed. The purposes of a forensic interview are:
1. To obtain information from a child that may be helpful in a criminal investigation;
2. To assess the safety of the child’s living arrangements;
3. To obtain information that will either corroborate or refute allegations or suspicions of abuse and neglect;
4. To assess the need for medical treatment and psychological care.
Multidisciplinary Team
KARE collaborates with local law enforcement, social service agencies and mental and behavioral health agencies via the Multidisciplinary Team to discuss and assess local child abuse cases in Haywood County.
