Victim Advocacy Services
KARE's Victim Services Program offers emotional support and service coordination for families experiencing abuse situations. We make resource referrals and collaborate with other agencies through a multidisciplinary team to ensure that: 1) victims are treated with dignity and respect, 2) that their cases are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted when possible, and 3) that victims and their caregivers have the tools and resources to heal. Our main goal is to minimize further trauma to children during the investigation. There is never a charge to families for our services.
FORENSIC INTERVIEWS
If a forensic interview is deemed necessary in the interest of the investigation, KARE's on-site interview room is a safe and comfortable place. Forensic interviews may be conducted by either a law enforcement official or a DSS employee. Each interviewer is specially trained on how to ask questions without leading or upsetting the child. After the interview parents or custodians will have an opportunity to speak with the investigator.
MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM
KARE collaborates with local law enforcement, social service agencies and mental and behavioral health agencies via the Multidisciplinary Team to discuss and assess local child abuse cases in Haywood County.
