Family and Victim Advocate email: ebeckner@karehouse.org phone: (828) 456-8995 x214 Programs of which I am a part: (see individual program links for more information)Victim Services - KARE provides a comfortable, private, child friendly setting that is both physically and psychologically safe for investigators to interview children when allegations of child abuse have been made. The Family Advocate works to provide support, crisis intervention, referrals and education for families dealing with child abuse and other family issues, including investigation and prosecution support.The Family Advocate also serves on several community teams including the Community Child Protection Team, the Community Child Fatality Team, and the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). MDT is a KARE facilitated group of community professionals where cases of child abuse in Haywood County are staffed to ensure that all aspects of the investigation and prosecution are happening to promote the safety and best interest of the family. The Family Advocate also coordinates the Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) project at KARE. TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children who have experienced sexual abuse or other serious traumatic events. This therapy has been found in multiple research studies to be very effective in the treatment for children with trauma-related problems and their families. KARE is very fortunate to have seven Haywood County child therapists working with them on this project. All seven therapists are trained in TF-CBT and work with the child and family on psychoeducation, stress management techniques, affect expression and modulation, cognitive coping, and creating a trauma narrative. |
